Son and heir visited from USA andy in effort to save him car rental costs put him on insurance so he could drive my car. Despite telling him not to put in any fuel he managed to top up the diesel tank with unleaded petrol and then drive until the engine gave out. Seriously, he's a very nice chap.

mc,m where have you been, I put out a MIA post last week, did you get your pacemaker in ?
Ack, expensive visit! :) Naive of me, I know - but I thought the design of caps and nozzles made such errors all but impossible nowadays?
Question Author
Yes anne, pacemaker now inserted and given me new lease of life despite stress of boy blunder.
good news mc. re the son, hey ho !:)
Question Author
LazyGun, sure was expensive. I believe that diesel nozzles don't fit petrol tanks, but not the other was round.
i think it's the other way round LG - you can't put diesel in a petrol car
@McMouse, ahh, that probably explains it then. Out of nosiness and curiosity, how much does it cost to repair the damage of such an error nowadays?
Question Author
LG all told it cost around £1k. This included cost of hire car while mine being fixed.
@McMouse - You have my sympathies! That is seriously expensive. I do hope that your son will be getting you a nice xmas present! :)
oh heck, just as well you had your pacemaker fitted when you saw that bill :)
Oh McMouse....not what you needed! But he has a nice dad.....☺
