Read a little of a report in the paper between the multitude of adverts that three of the people in Bruce's terrible show were robbed now my question is .with all the money the papers make out of adverts and I'm sure their main income could they lower the price or indeed give it away .

The Metro is free.

It's a constantly changing situation.

Clearly, each income stream contributes to production/distribution/ profit and publishers balance the two, or find an alternative non retail distribution network.

'Free Sheets' traditionally had a poor reputation for editorial quality or for turning circulation into actual Readership though the London titles have challenged those prejudices in recent years.

The 'Paid For' Titles will still argue that they deliver a more targeted and more qualified readership to advertisers than the 'Free Sheets' so it's an ongoing debate.
we're not paying to read the adverts, we're paying to read the news, and the money goes to pay the reporters who provide it (and the costs of paper and printing).

Free papers like the Standard and the Metro tend to have either lots of ads or not many reporters.
