terrible for him, and no intent to belittle or make light - but how can celebs who delight in tweeting their every move and action not realize that opportunist low-lifes will be following them?

I always think it is worth leaving someone in the house (a neighbour perhaps) when a well publicised funeral is taking place.
people have been putting funeral notices in the papers for centuries. What's he supposed to do, not tell anyone his mother's died?

Good advice from VHG, I think.
Wasn't there a lottery winner who was burgled when collecting their prize. And in the dim and distant past when Liverpool played in the Champions League, the players' houses used to get robbed when they were abroad.

I never publicise the fact that I am going on holiday because you never know who might be listening. Perhaps celebs should be equally as careful.
>>>What's he supposed to do, not tell anyone his mother's died?

I think in this case he did highly publicise the funeral on Facebook and Twitter and other social media sites, opening it up to a much wider audience than just a local paper.

We have some well-off friends who own a jewellery business and he is always going off to Dubai with his family to buy gold.

Whenever he is there he and his family always post pictures of themselves on the beach or whatever.

I think that sort of thing is just asking to get your house burgled.
but this sort of thing has happened for years, VHG, even without the aid of Twitter. I think the significant factor, as you say, is that he's well known. Once burglars read that someone famous has lost a family member, they can just watch the papers for funeral details.
This is news?

Just because he happens to be a 'celebrity', it happens on almost a daily basis somewhere or other in this country, yet it never reaches the papers.
I was burgled on Christmas Day. :-(
I made the 'mistake' of attending a family Christmas dinner.
aog, I would guess that the fact that he's a celebrity means he's more likely to have things worth stealing.
