Hi all, I have a beautiful Ragdoll cat called Misty who loves kneading. I know this is said to relate back to when they are feeding from their mothers but Misty tends to do it with both her front and back paws and only on my husband's knee where she balances with all four paws on his knee and just kneads. Does anyone know why she does this? Thanks.

Because she needs to.......

Geddit?
Shoota is actually pretty close with his answer - Misty does it because she wants to as it feels comforting.

Only one of my two kneads me and it is usually when he is under the duvet all warm and cosy - he purrs loudly and is obviously very content.
My mom used to have a cat like that, the cat used to knead with all four feet and dribble at the same time !.

Thanks all and thanks for your link wolf63 - going to take a look in a minute.
tony - Frankie dribbles too. I actually asked the vet to look at his teeth. He's a mummy's boy. His sister is a violent psychopath with no brains - but she is pretty.
Strange why they dribble isn't it, wolf.
strange about covers every bit of their personality. A few times I have wandered upstairs to do my crossword/sudoku in bed and have passed Frankie coming downstairs with my pen - or a ponytail band (For Funks Sake he is a boy).

minniemoo - how old is Misty? She sounds like a content cat - living with a cat is an adventure.
I think he nicks your pen so as to stop you doing crosswords and sudoku, so that you will spend more time fussing him, wolf.
minnie - do you have dogs as well as your ragdoll ? Our raggy is just over 6 months and is more like our dogs than a cat, well he rules the roost where they're concerned, or maybe this is just one of their traits !

ps love him to bits !
Mine sucks if he can get away with it. He sticks his nose into my tummy and then sneakily grabs hold of my clothing and sucks. Supposedly because he was taken away from his mum too soon.
I have 2 cats..one is a sucker and kneader who soaks everything she sucks on..fluffy items usually...the other is a strong hefty kneader who humps at the same time and purrs loudly!! Yes..humps as in giving it a gool old seeing to! ;)
It's quite normal, most of them do it - it's a sign of love .... they used to knead their mother to help bring milk for them when they were kittens.
What's the humping about...is it sexual do you think??
Blue kneads me all the time when I'm lying on the sofa. She does this for a while before settling and sleeping. She dribbles every now and again as well.
Mine will also hump if he gets the chance but I usually give him a shift if he starts
My Ragdoll does the same, usually on top of me when I am trying to get to sleep, and purrs really loud, usually whilst licking my ear, its almost deafening.
She usually stops and curls up when I let her under the duvet, in bed with me. X

Sorry guys haven't been on here for a few days. Wolf63 she is 5 and adorable. Seerkeerz we don't have any dogs but we do have another cat - Tatty who definitely lives up to her name. She is not a ragdoll just a long haired little sweetie. Brinjal I can't believe your cat does the same as Misty, I didn't realise it was because they were taken away from their mothers too soon aww they are gorgeous though aren't they.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer my question. xx
