It probably will, though my 3 offspring seem to have gone to more christenings than I ever did and each one of them is a godparent to several children, whereas i am only a godmother to my sisters 2 kids. My son will not have his own 3 baptised despite standing for a couple of his godchildren, can't explain that one, it's a parenting decision not a religious one. All mine were baptised but it didn't impact on their life path.
Very personal choice, I was baptised at the same time as my three children. Two grandchildren have been baptised and two haven't. Up to parents to decide.
It would look a bit silly if George wasn't christened, his great-gran is head of the church...........
Weecalf.....If I were of child bearing years it wouldn't encourage me one bit to go through that ritual....having said that....if another immaculate conception occurs I will have to rethink......☺
Some parents get their children christened so that they have a better chance of a place at the local church school.
. great opportunity for a family gathering and grand piss-up

also welcomes the child into society.

Well it was not the rights or wrongs of baptism I was thinking about .It was just the guy said it as we lesser lights in his eyes should take notice of our "betters" as he sees it .
I must have missed the part where he said 'lesser people'..........
I clearly read a very different press release to you weecalf!
Id say willie or wullie
Surprised if it is getting more popular. Can't remember a christening in our local church lately; it's next door, so I might notice; but most of the congregation are well past planning on children.

My son was christened and, in due course, confirmed because his school required it . My daughter wasn't even baptised and had the whole lot done, confirmation and all, in one go. By then she had decided to be a proper Christian, unlike her atheist dad and her lapsed Catholic mother.

In our part of London it was the done thing; it was a cultural, middle class thing rather than any Christian, devout, thing. It was as about as Christian as going to Royal Ascot or skiing was !
Must be different up north Fred, my daughter was christened and we were definitely working class...............
I used to feel terrible for the babies in limbo. I was only 5 but I could see it wasn't very fair on them.
what time is wee georgie's christening,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i want to see what the gang are wearing ?
Fred's right, it's more a cultural thing in many circles, people have it done even if they're not churchgoers themselves. It's an acceptance thing, IMO.
In this link it says this afternoon, don't know the exact time though.

It'll be on the BBC News anne!
I think it's often for tradition rather than religion. I know many people who have had the non-religious "baby-naming" days instead. But I'm not sure how long they have been available for.
My niece had her baby christened, but my nephew's daughter just had the naming ceremony followed by a church blessing. Different!
