Hi Guys, After a complete wipe using Danks Boot & Nuke and re-installing XP Prof (for my Son to use) I find I have no icons for either internet or volume. I have done the usual (right click task bar / properties / customise etc but there is no sign. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I'm not a whiz-kid with computers.....Just a frustrated pensioner. Many thanks, Tel

All of the drivers for your computer are here: http://tinyurl.com/telboy1938 Download the setup files to the computer which you're using to view this post (which is obviously able to access the internet). Copy them to external media (such as a USB stick) and, from there, to the desktop of the troublesome PC. Double-click to run the installation programs....

When you re-installed Windows, did you also remember to install of the drivers for your computer? The lack of a sound driver, for example, may well explain why you've not got a 'Volume' icon.

If you didn't (and you also failed to back up the drivers before wiping everything), you'll need to go to the website(s) of the manufacturer of your computer and/or of the relevant components (such as your sound card, or motherboard if your computer only has 'on board' sound) in order to locate, download and install the drivers. (Always try the manufacturer's website first, as that may well have all of the drivers you require, saving you having to go to lots of different sites).

Hi Chris, It is strange that I did the same "Wipe" to a laptop and re-installed XP and that works fine. I do have a pen drive with XP drivers saved from previous installations but I have no idea how to re-place them to the pc concerned. Your advice will be very useful. Also, is it possible to transfer drivers (copy & paste type) from a working xp program to another pc ?? Regards. Tel
No you cant copy and paste drivers from one machine to another you have to install them.

Each driver will consist of one or more files in a folder. The folders may be called audio or graphics or network whatever (names will vary).

Normally you look inside the folder for an application or program to run and just double click on it to start the install.

Most driver installs only take seconds to run, but some do require a reboot afterwards.
Sorry, you can't just copy & paste drivers. You need to run the installation program for each one, so that the relevant entries can be added to the Windows registry.

Try going to Start > Accessories > System Tools >System Information to look for the dreaded exclamation marks (telling you that there's a problem, such as a missing driver). Even if there are no exclamation marks you will hopefully be able to gather sufficient information to help you find the drivers online (unless, of course, you've got them on a disc which came with the computer).

The problem is Chris, There are exclamation marks bu I can't get on-line to download them. I even loaded a new copy of Win 7 (it says all drivers included on the label) but they are not there. I believe ChuckFickens has the answer to my problems. Tel
