And Blackadder CBE... sounds about the right priorities to me, recognition for the underdog and a farthing for the boss!

Tis better to keep in with the dirt digging up old relics, that rehasing old potboilers! Blackadder was funny the first time round; but, not any more.
Can't stand the man.

my OH has had some contact with Sir Baldrick and says he's wonderful, a really nice guy, courteous and helpful. That's good enough for me.
Whoop, about time.
Lucky Bag!!
Scraping the bottom of the barrel in a non eventful year. Nice guy fr sure, but not a reason to honour a person. But then I'm not a fan of the honours sytem at the best of times.
Oh I don't know Spoonster, it stacks up pretty well against elephants and lions in matchboxes.
Clare Balding gets an OBE. At this rate, she'll make it to Dame, as the female National Treasure.

Tony Robinson is a star Labour supporter and worker. Now, if Rowan Atkinson was more into politics...

Richly deserved imho!
Question Author
true, FredPuli, but Labour are not in power. Atkinson has spoken in favour of a libertarian position whereby comedians can say anything they like without fear of PC complaints, which ought to be a Tory stance; but it seems it isn't.

In truth, I'm quite surprised how these two honours in particular have turned out. But my OH thinks it's dead right.
Brilliant news for both of them and for fans of Blackadder everywhere, it was some of the best comedy ever produced
Sounds like the outcome of the fabled Cunning Plan!
Has the world gone mad altogether? A K for an enlisted man and only a CBE for an officer?
Very happy for him and Rowan. Blackadder is my all time favourite comedy.
I do wonder how much chartiy and public and political work gets involved with these awards. Seems to me favoured individuals get given an award for doing their job, being a popular celeb, maybe helping the government party in question, that sort of stuff. Congrats to all given them but I don't think they represent much any more, if they ever did.
.

I unkindly thought exactly that ! jno

an underling had a gong when he joined my nationalised employer and so and so, the chairman HAD to have a gong (same size) to sudduv equalise things

You can hear the sort of thing ringing around the Mandarins' corridor:
"Sir, Jones has a sherbet fountain and I dont and it's just not fair !"
Sir (for it is he) : Yeah OK what about knighting the Nobel prize winner ?
Both Jones and Smith (in unison) : "Sir ! have yo gone out of your majesty's mandarins' mind ? What's HE done for the country ? "
and so on down the list
I thought Tony Robinson was anti- monarchy or am i just imagining that to be the case ?
sir mr bean and sir baldric

kudos to both of them, thorougly merited
