My family and I are emigrating to NZ in the next few months. As we will no longer be living at the address on our UK Driving Licence, do we need to renew it? Can we use a relative's address in the UK for this? I know you can use your UK driving licence for 12 months in NZ before you need a NZ licence, but my UK details will be incorrect.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Strictly speaking, if you put any address on it other than where you are actually living, you are breaking the law (in other words you need to change it for an NZ one right away). However, I know quite a few people who live abroad and register their licences to addresses of friends or relatives in the UK.

Change your UK address to that of a relly quietly and also renew the UK licence as far ahead as you can. You are correct about 12 months use of UK licence when in NZ. Nothing wrong with keeping both licences at the same time while in NZ. Looking ahead. you may wish to return to UK in a later year for keeps or for holiday. Little point in having to gain another UK licence if the return is for keeps.
