And apparently The town’s most recent claim to worldwide fame was as the home to composer Sir Malcolm Arnold for the last two decades of his life: he wrote the Attleborough Suite, opus 78 of his oeuvre, as a salute to the town, and composed other pieces there including his Divertimento for Wind Octet. Before old age curbed his activities he used to play impromptu pieces at a local hotel, at times accompanying his trumpet playing – held in his left hand – with the piano attacked with his right.
