Have any ABers who suffer from psoriasis found adjusting their diet beneficial?

I'm particularly interested in those who may have tried cutting out dairy products.

I have tried all sorts, but I cut out milk and the other main dairy products once for about six months, that made a huge difference. I reintroduced the products gradually into my diet. Flour really flairs up my psoriasis, so I do not handle it wherever possible.

The only thing that REALLY works for me is sunshine. I keep trying to convince my doctor to give me a prescription to Greece! Are you a smoker? I am, but when I've quit before (not succesfully, I hasten to admit) it has helped tremendously.

Interesting post, Eccles.

My mother currently has extensive psoriasis on her lower limbs that is refractory to all topical meds. I reckon (and with good reason) that it took hold whilst she was run down, depressed and not looking after herself properly.

Since encouraging her to have a healthier, more balanced diet, things have improved.

My BILaw swears by sea water to control his.
My ex stopped smoking and drinking, stopped the prescription steroid creams and other meds, used honesy to dress her really terribly hands and feet and got a UV lamp and within about 3 weeks it had totally gone. She hasn't had a recurrence, still doesn't smok,e but does drink whenever she pleases and doesn't needs to dress her skin anymore or use the lamp. Steroid creams just didn't work for her at all, and only made things worse as she weaned herself off them.
I had it really bad. My arms and legs were covered. In my case it was stress related, I think. Mine was so bad that I had sunbeds on the NHS.

Diet made no difference to me. I eat more dairy now than I did back then. Mine has gone now, I think it's state of mind.
My mother used Manuka honey too - went in a fortnight. she already ate a well balaned diet, but notied too muh wheat-based products could upset her.
I suffer with it on the soles of my feet and ,although not as bad,the tips of my fingers .The specialist said it could be stress related, had a course of injections which did absolutely nothing. Then one day was wandering around a market,in Spain,a man was selling herbs, some which were for skin complaints etc..bought some, had to make it like one would a cup of tea, sweetened with honey as it tasted revolting...it shifted it...it was as if I had never had it.But,....it came back!Apparently,it will.one cannot get rid permanantly.I am very careful now and put cream on regularly(just a handcream...preferably with glycerine in it) to keep the skin from getting too dry.
Iluvspikey, how is the Mauka honey taken,? might try that.

Thanks all. I was curious as I haven't been drinking milk for a few months and there has been an improvement in my skin, I had a couple of weeks back on milk and it started to go down hill again now I'm back off milk and there is some improvement.

My skin has always been very erratic and it has been impossible to identify triggers. I suspect that the milk is just a coincidence but I'll keep an eye on it.
Where do you have it?
Wheat (gluten) products cause my daughter and grandson's psoriasis to flair up.
Question Author
It's head to toe Ummmm.

I don't eat much wheat and when I do I've never noticed a change in my psoriasis I've never known changes in my diet to affect my skin. I'm trying to recall if there was any change to my skin when I've gone without milk in the past.
I've found that it is stress related. What helped me was washing with Wright's Coal Tar Soap.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your input crypticish but stress doesn't cause a flare up and coal tar has never really helped me.
Eccles, is your guttate psoriasis?
Question Author
Guttate and plaque; fortunately I've so far dodged pustular!
Daughter is having the hopspial sun bed treatment and in between creaming, I sympathise with you

Having become photsensitive following pUVA I can no longer have phototherapy. UVB had been moderately successful in the past and pUVA seemed to work until I went over the edge and had a very bad reaction.

It's all a bit of a bugger really. I'm probably clutching at straws but having had three months of very little dairy in my diet I had noticed an improvement. I then had a couple of weeks of regular dairy products and saw a pretty immediate change in my skin. I'm now back on a very low dairy diet and my skin seems to be improving.

The avoiding dairy isn't a particularly deliberate thing just coincidental with my current circumstances.
Thanks, eccles, I'll pass that tip to her and see if it helps

LoL, don't think of it as a tip, I was just wondering if other sufferers had had a similar change in their condition.

I think this post just goes to prove how very variable the complaint can be and what works for one makes no odds to the next person. Just adds to the frustration!

Good luck to your daughter, I hope she finds a therapy that suits her.
