Reporting back It was results day today. I have primary thrombocythaemia caused by a gene that seems to have gone bonkers! It seems it's on the first step of the leukaemia spectrum. Not cureable but manageable, so now I'm taking oral chemotherapy. Had a little cry, but I'm being pragmatic (or at least I'm trying to be), and I'm telling myself - it could be worse:-)))

Thank you for your good wishes on the TGN thread LazyGun, its a bitch.....
@Shoota NPs. I hope you have been able to find the right dose of drugs to control it.
Apart from the odd 'spike' it has been in remission for the last few years. At one time it was very bad and I was on 1600mg Tegretol daily.
Now I take a holding dose of 200mg which has only a minor effect on me. Still wish I could stop completely.
Feedback much appreciated.
Always a shock to get such news horseshoes, but just a few things to keep hold of and concentrate on.
This condition is very much at the benign end of the spectrum - the medication is oral and has very little of the side effects associated with chemotherapy. Control of the platelet count is usually good and well maintained.
It is very likely that you will be attending the Haematology department for many a year yet, with no great interference with your life.
Good luck with it all.

@ Lazygun and Slaney. That sounds akin to what the haematologist said. It's such a shock to hear the word leukaemia:-( So no, I ain't going anywhere any time soon!

I already have my next appointment at his clinic next Wednesday. He said "you're ours now" - it was like something from The League of Gentleman, and he laughed when I told him that!.
