What a tragedy of cross-cultural values in that a 17 year old wanting boyfriends and her Pakistani-heritage parents wanting her to marry. Then her father takes action and is accused, along with her mother, of murdering their daughter and dumping the body in Cumbria.

Alisha, her sister, blew the gaffe on them......

Any views on how to avert this and integrate Muslim values into our cultural heritage and minimise the risk of this happening again?

I have learnt here over the years that many people do not understand a very simple difference between an arranged marriage and a forced marriage.

Then I am always amazed that few people will associate any individual acting badly to their country of origin. Pakistani if bad and British if wins a medal. Then there are people who "due to a certain mentality" will once again stitch individual action to religion (mainly Islam) and then the same people will turn around if someone will ask these individuals to be punished according to Islam. Does that surprise me? No, not really.
Apparently Shafilea opposed an arranged marriage which then became a forced marriage and then was murdered - is that how it goes keyplus. Regarding the medals (which is irrelevant) you only win a British medal when you compete for the UK.
Easy. If they dont like our way of living then find somewhere that does.

We are a free country (sort of) and if they dont like it then they should s*** off.

Wow...
em, not all muslims have arranged marriage. As i have said when i converted i got married to my girlfriend. I chose to get married. She agreed.
sith, many young people from British asian families may not like the idea of arranged marriages. They see their western counterparts have girlfriends, boyfriends, not chosen by their parents. So i wonder if in the near future more will not put up with these arranged marriages.
Your example is a good one, but there are obviously ones that are not good, otherwise you wouldn't have refuges for women of different background, faiths, Muslim among them.
As to this case, if the parents did this terrible thing they have been accused of i hope they go to jail for a long time.
i agree with the fact that it shouldnt be forced, but as keyplus has rightly said there is a huge difference between arranged and forced marriage.

Also, if islam was that bad on women, 62% of the people that convert to islam are women? how does that work then?
