Coming back home yellow warning light came on then went off. But temp gauge started to go up just as I was home. Checked water and that is ok. Vauxhall Astra. Would it be Thermostat?

What does the yellow light indicate? Did the temp guage go up after you had switched off? It could be a a blown fuse on the cooling fan or lots of other things, more info. needed.

4 miles from home yellow light came on then went off then about 2 miles from home the temp gauge started to creep up to half within 2 miles. Checked water and that was ok.
The temperature gauge should creep up to a half. That's a red herring.

You need to check the manual to see what that yellow light refers to.

the yellow light has to do with the water. It shows on the dash as a tank.

Hopkirk thanks for reply but it didn't just creep up it went up quite fast and I have never seen it do that before .I had only gone about 4 miles
are you sure it is not a low fuel light as they usually have a tank symbol.

the cooling system is usually shown with a thermometer symbol.

yellow light is usually a non important problem that needs looking at when home or safely parked, a red light would mean urgent action required straight away.
i have been known to be wrong and will happily accept it if i am shown to be in the wrong as i have never owned a vauxhall.
If it didn't reach the red area, don't worry.

It probably does climb that fast normally, but you don't notice. It probably also drops again when the thermostat opens, then rises again slowly.

If the light is off now, relax and monitor it.
I have 2003 Astra, and it has no light that refers to the water.

Turn on your ignition and all lights will come on for a short period, and see what the light actually shows.

It could be a picture of an engine (engine management light) or a picture of a battery.

Alternatively if it is a newer one perhaps they have fitted a coolant level light, or even a screenwash level light.
