Hi alid - lots of sympathy - if that's the St Andrews cross of Scotland, the solution is to skip Christmas and observe Hogmanay...

I love Christmas even though my kids are older they still enjoy all the fun things, eg getting their stockings, enjoy playing board games, etc. its just the mad things I do on the run up to it, but love Hogmanay even more as its just partying with lots o family and friends no hassle at all.
Over the last couple of years I have reduced the number of people I send cards to so that helps. Also I have cut down the present buying dramatically and now only get for our parents, our kids, OH and younger children in the family. Brothers and sisters no longer get gifts nor do their kids that are in their 20's and now having kids of their own. It all helps with workload and budget but I could still do with more time.
Christmas is the same day every year so why are we surprised when it just seems to creep up on us? I'm a bit of a last minute shopper - grandchildren seem to change their minds 10 times a week about what they would like. Went through the bah humbug years then the grandchildren came along and now I just love it. Have cut down a bit on cards and pressies for grown ups but just seem to spend as much but now on the wee ones.
on line animated cards.... pressies only for key people tree and a few foliage arrangements only... clutter can be left for spring cleaning
