on this advert the dog warns the deaf person that there is someone at the door, then the dog alerts the lady that the phone is ringing............... i may be ignorant but if the phone is ringing and the person needs alerting to this then surely they cant hear the person at the other end of the line!!!!!!

erm usally they av screens on the fone in which it tells them what the person on the other end of the fone is sayin get it?
there called typetalk or text talk or some variation, I belive its a braile keyboard that links to a call centre which passes it on to whoever the call is for. Thats how it works for the emergency services anyway I imagine its the same for normal calls.
You need to watch Sue Thomas, FBEye about a deaf FBI agent and her hearing dog, Levi. Her phones all have text screens. Apparently, it's based on a true story. It's on Hallmark.
baronvhb, deaf people don't need a braile keyboard, they are perfectly able to see a normal one!!
I field typetalk calls pretty often, the deaf person types into a keyboard and an operator then reads it out to the person on the other end of the line, then they type the answer out and send it back to the deaf person who sees it on a screen. They're odd at first but you get used to them!
quite right sammy got myself confused for a moment, (is there any help for us hard of thinking people ?) I pretty sure about the rest tho
