Not sure this is Body and Soul question but here I go;
My husband was diagnosed 2 years ago with epilepsy (after a year of diagnostic tests). Therefore since November 2008, my husband has not driven a car. Also, a note that he did crash a car after one of his first seizures.
He came close to getting his license again, even getting it through the post the same day he had another seizure.
It's been 14 months since he's had a seizure, and now has his license back. We were sorting out a new car and insurance. But today he's come to me extremely upset saying he can't bear to get in a car, that he can't trust himself and believes that he'll have another seizure.
I completely understand his concerns and it has always worried me it might happen. But he says he must drive again, and he seems in his mind that he's having a terrible battle believing he has no choice but to drive again, but too terrified to do so.
I don't know what to do or how to help him??? I suggested a refresher course with a friend whos a driving instructor but says he can't.
I really don't know what to do...

I suppose it does depend on the type of seizure, Im sorry, Im no expert, But I have just lived with it in my family all my life. It just worries me.

Well, they're not sure on what kind of seizure it is either I believe. A paramedic once said it's a partial seizure, but I always thought that partial seizures meant you still had some kind of consciousness throughout the seizure?
With my husband he's completely unconscious throughout, and they can last from 5 seconds through to around 7 minutes. He just looks like he's sleeping. No twitching, convulsing or ticks.

lol squad. I am really stuck. I can't do anything, and I'm so concerned. He's feeling really low, I wish he'd said something sooner.
Have a think about a class 3 Mobility Scooter. Although I have a car,because of my age (86) I bought a class 3 electric mobility Scooter for local travelling, it travels at 8 MPH & has a range of 25 miles ( 12.5 miles & back) which I find quite peaceful & tranquil,it requires a Road Fund Licence for road travel which is supplied free by the DVLA.Hubby may find this good & then drive the car occasionally.

It would be so nice to get a reply to my genuine suggestion ( Sun 7th August)
