I have just purchased an exercise bike and plan to do 30 minutes every morning or at least 6 out of 7 but what I would like to know is should I eat breakfast before I start or after?

Afterwards, you shouldn't do any sort of exercise soon after eating.
A small amount before and a small amount after.

You'll need to eat something before for your energy levels. After you'll probably be hungry so prepare something healthy you can have once you're done.
Boxy....really shouldn't exercise with no food. If fruitsalad is talking about doing it in the morning before breakfast that means she's been all night without food.
Paula Radcliffe goes training after having her porridge.............
There were studies done to find out whether the myth of fasted cardio burns more fat which was found to be wrong.
Well, first we have to go all the way over to Italy, to hear
from researchers who had a study published in the International
Journal of Sports Nutrition Exercise and Metabolism (21:48-54, 2011).

The Italian researchers wanted to see what would happen
when eight healthy young men did the following workouts:

Workout A: 36 minutes of slow cardio at 65% maximum heart
rate in the morning without eating

Workout B: 36 minutes of slow cardio at 65% maximum heart
rate in the morning AFTER a small meal

The RESULTS?
24-hours after exercise, the results found that eating before
cardio increased both calorie burning AND fat burning.

That’s right, eating before the workout increased fat burning
in the 24-hours after exercise.

The scientists concluded that “fasting before exercise does
not enhance lipid utilization; rather, physical activity
after a light meal is advisable.

As ummm has said have a light breakfast and then don't do any cardio for roughly 60-90 mins so then you have the extra energy and you also have an empty stomach, maybe you could look at stims to further boost your metabolic rate which would burn more fat.
You certainly need something.

Yes, I guess I should qualify my post - you need a bit of something, I would have a banana and a yoghurt myself first thing, wait a bit, do the exercise, then eat more fully afterwards.
Sorry Trimeresurus by stims i meant Stimulants such as Green tea, Ginkgo, Rhodiola, Chocamine, Raspberry Ketones, Ginseng etc..

thanks guys will have to get up extra early and eat to give time for the food to digest before my workout.
Just get an extra hour sleep at night to compensate for the early start fruitsalad and remember to keep protein high, carbs low/medium and unhealthy fats zero and good fats up.
Not really fruitsalad....I think a banana and glass of milk will do.
