my nephew wants to leave his dads home and come and live with me. In california what age does he have to be ? Also he is suppose to be getting social security from his dead mother, how does he go about collecting it when he leaves his fathers house

In the UK a young person can leave home at 16. (If he/she is reported as 'missing' by his/her parents, the police are barred from revealing the young person's whereabouts to the parents without the permission of the young person). However, googling for an answer to your question suggests that the age in California is 18 unless there's a relevant court order in place.
