Hi everyone,
I have just noticed this plant growing out of my rockery and have no idea what on earth it is. I've never seen it before and it doesn't match anything on the other side of the fence. I have taken a picture of it:

I'm thinking it looks invasive & really strong with miles of dividing root under the soil, maybe something like horse tail (it looks too tough for that though but they do well on poor soil) The papery base makes it look like a grass. Hope someone can rumble it for you.
Bamboo? underground runner can travel quite a long way from the main plant.
I do wish someone would answer this, I can't wait to find out what is is!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH
It looks very much like a new bamboo shoot. Has your neighbour got bamboo?
The links not available now.
It is available. Took a while though.
Just googled "new bamboo shoot" and I think your right Alcie and 237SJ
I`ve got bamboo at the end of the garden and that is exactly what it looks like when it comes up. Apparently the roots grow very shallowly under the ground and if you have a bamboo that you don`t want to spread, you just dig a 3 inch trench around it.
