Are there any banks where you can go into a branch and ask to open a bank account and be given your account details so you can deposit and withdraw money on the same day? I don't mind about having to wait so long for debit cards and chequebooks but just wondered if there are any where you can recieve your account details on the same day?

I think these easy-going days are long since gone due to the strict requirements of the Money Laundering Act.  You will need to produce documents to prove your identity and your address and I suspect that that even if you took these into a bank and they opened an account for you straight away, any cheques paid in would need to wait several days to be cleared.  You could try ringing some of the High Street banks to enquire exactly what their requirements are.

I doubt that ANY bank or building society would open a new account and let you withdraw funds against an uncleared cheque all on the same day.
