because we are fundementally an irrational species, we have yet to evolve out of not using our emotional/irrational part of the brain to answer questions etc, of course after some thought and research using the scientific method we can be rational beings, but you might as well have asked why do we still belive in astrology, quack medical cures such as homeopathy or god
