I suffered like bu66ery with mouth ulcers from the age of about 18-25. There was only really about 2 weeks of being ulcer free before getting them again. Always on the side of the tongue. Sometimes I wouldnt even be able to talk due to the pain. Eating was excrucuatingly painful.

Cant put it down to stress or bad diet as I was in a stress free job and eating healthily.

I noticed that they would appear a few days after drinking beer, cider or wine -even small amounts like a few glasses; spirits were fine. So I cut out drink but still got them. Whatever was in the drink was also present in other foods.

Got to 25 and it suddenly stopped. I was free to drink beer! Someone told me your blood can change every 7 years so if its a blood allergy it can start, run for a few years then stop.

I had an inkling it was malic acid, as its naturally occuring in some foods such as apples, beer, wine its not listed as an ingredient.

I have recently started getting them again but nowhere near as painful or frequent as before.

It functions as one..I know it is a series of layers and doesn't meet the clinical definition but thinking of it as one makes it easier to explain... although when we did our tissue viability the nurse tutor called it a membrane too probably for the same reason Go easy on me I'm trying to be helpful through teary eyes this morning

Now getting back to you...if I was closer to you, I would tell you to take the afternoon off, take you to an Italian Restaurant (not in Italy ;-), food, wine....and i am a good listener.
