Just one question which I hope someone could answer. I missed the part when the german woman was saying about why she didnt want anyone to know who she was.? And about the baby.? could anyone tell me please. ? xx

The baby she lost when the lifeboat fell into the water was the daughter of her brother and his wife who were both killed by the Germans. I don't remember why, possibly it was because she and her brother had a German father but an English mother.

The brother and sister had been handing out anti Nazi literature and were executed. They asked Hilda to take their child to a new life, so they were both escaping from Nazi Germany. The baby fell out of the lifeboat when the rope broke and was never seen again.
