come on guys lets not get nasty x
Who's getting nasty? What did you think of your visit to Auschwitz...?
i have never said i have been
Fcuk off Mark you prick. I certainly know that it cannot be compared to Disneyland. If I asked this question I'd be insulted with your comment. Like you have to remind people that Auschwitz is not a tourist attraction that's meant to be fun.

You are so far up your own ar$e it's shocking. Just because some of us haven't been in person that we couldn't imagine what it might be like. That some of us might find the thought a bit too harrowing.

Now trot off and go find someone spelling mistakes to correct...dick..!
how long ago did you go mark?
About five years ago...
did it make you feel any different to how you thought before you went?
Yes it did.

Having theretofore known only what I'd read in books and seen on documentaries, I thought I had a reasonably accurate knowledge of what took place there.

I was completely wrong...
I just dont think i would be strong enough emotionally to go. I know that sounds like i am a coward but i think it would be very overwhelming, to the point i would be an emotional wreck and ruin it for other people there !!
> I just don't think i would be strong enough emotionally to go.

At least you're not trying to pretend that you know what it's like to go there...

> I know that sounds like i am a coward

Well, you could take relief from the fact that you weren't a European Jew in the 1940s...
yes i know what your saying about at least i wasnt a jew in the 1940s in Auscwitz, and im thankfull i was not!!!!. Documentaries about the Halocaust are enough to make me weep, which is why i really dont think i could go !
We stayed at the Wentzl hotel in the middle of town, right on the square, opposite a busy market building. The neighborhood streets offer good shopping and eating--pirogies on Slawcow (?) Street are fun. The Mexican place called Azteca is not so good. Convenience stores sell great beer at a low price. We plan to go back some time--a good time at a low price.
Shame on most ofyou for hijacking the thread. Everyone should visit Auschwitz. I went in March as I didn't want to visit when there were leaves on the trees. My vivid memory of the day was the smell of the human hair on display. I'll never forget it. None of us should.

Why do you propose that 'Every Zionist should be frog marched into the place'? Most of their relatives were murdered there.
I wnet for 7 days and was still finding things we had not seen when heading to the train station.
Recommend visits to:
Auschwitz go past Novatel and you will come to a bus stop on a junction with WC opposite, get a bus ( Auschwitz / Owin..... ) from there, z10 each way.
Schindlers Factory get on tram number 6, heading away from Novatel, towards city, by 24 hour shop, z2 1/2 each way.
Wieliczka Salt Mine turn right at 24 hour shop next main junction with theatre on the corner get on bus 304, z3 each way. Make sure you have sufficient battery power for lots of flash photography.
City / Jewish Quater take camera with plenty of memory / film.
Found people to be generally friendly in bars and resturants, apart from FLAMES Night club AVOID AT ALL COSTS, had also been told NOT TO GO TO ETAGE. Others should be fine.
Krakow is that good I intending going back.

thanks everyone for the information enjoyed visiting the castle (on a monday it is free!), the salt mines, found oskar schindlers factory but it was closing as I arrived and ghetto heroes square, walked all over Krakow, passed Plasnow on the way back into Krakow in the car. Saw all the main tourist attractions and more! I found the trip to Auschwitz + Birkenau very interesting, until you actually go you don't realise the large scale of the place, i wasn't upset when i went there, there is so much to take in found all the rooms of belongings unbelievable and the signs in the room of hair didn't stop people taking photos of it, thought that was disrespectful! Stayed at the hotel atrium great location near local market and galeria krakow big shopping centre
