That is standard and acceptable treatment for hypertension and yes, this may well be a lifetime treatment depending upon routine and regular assessments.
The doctor should take a blood test after about 6 months and that will determine any further medication, don,t worry i have been on them for 5years
Has he been given lifestyle advice? My DH was on meds for high bP while he was at work and improved so much when he retired that he could stop them.
I have been on them also since that age and have no problems with them, is great to get your BP done and a smile rather than a frown.
I'm on Benny's (nick name) too, have been for years. I had a break (trial) for a couple of months and my feet & legs became very swollen, I had to go back on them.Ever since things are fine. Don't worry about it, its for his good.

As Sqad says - those medications are standard treatment for high blood pressure. Better being on the tablets and having regular checks than not on them and risking a stroke or heart disease!
My husband is on these too for high blood pressure, has been for at least 8 years now, he doesn't take any duretics though, he's 60 now, still working, has a very demanding job, but is very fit and well!.........they seem to be working well for him thankfully!.......
Did he get the 24hr cuff?

That apart I would take any medicine which people have put their hearts and souls into researching to aid people like your husband -lucky man :)
