any ideas what my problem could be. Pain in lower left side of back becomes worse when i lift my left leg (to put sock on etc). It has been aching for the last few days but today my left bum cheek feels very crampy. i do have degenerative disc (c5 and c6) which causes very stiff neck and headaches (this is being treat by accupunture) thanks in anticipation for any advice julie

Sounds as though you also have degenerative changes in L45 or perhaps S12.
I would start off by taking Ibuprofen 600mgms twice daily.

What do you take for your neck?

thanks squad. The only painrelief that works is a 30mg codiene that i take on average twice a week. As i work in a chemist i know the problems that come with codiene but when i questioned my doctor he was more concerned about the problems that come from NSAIDS so he says its ok for me to take codiene if needed. I serve customers that are addicted to nurofen plus so i am reluctant when taking my codeine. If it is what you said (L45 or S12) can surgery be done? Im starting uni in Jan (3yr nursing) and dont want myhealth problems to interfere with placements etc
ilove....before you start talking about surgery, you meed to have an Orthopaedic opinion and an MRI scan and that will indicate the exact nature of the problem.

What has you doctor got against NSAID.s?
Question Author
Yes i was surprised by his reaction too,he was concerned with gastro problems (bleeding and ulcers). Nevertheless i am going to try the ibuprofen continuous for a week just to see if it helps with my inflamation, i am 42 so maybe this is just part of getting old!
