Is it possible for a web site owner to notice when somebody nicks one of their images by making a screenshot of it, as opposed to downloading it? I know it's possible to search the web for images similar or identical to your own and reveal a thief that way if they've posted the image to their own site, but is it also possible to catch a person red-handed, identifying for instance their IP and country...? ...or something?

Nope, not in a million years. Anyone viewing it on their screen has already downloaded the image (there's no other way that they can see it). If they now take a screenshot, that's a purely local action (i.e. no further interaction with the web), so no way of detecting it.

He he! I do in essence agree on and honour the copyright laws woofgang. But sometimes people consider an public domain image to be theirs because they've put a friggin' frame around it...!
Copyright is only as good as the lengths the claimant is prepared to pursue to defend it. So weig it up - what they gonna do? And can they absolutley prove you did not own an image that looked similar? And if they can, why the eff are they putting their intellectual property up on t'interweb?
So was it the free fox theme that you nicked http://www.mobileonfr...llpaper.php?phone=381 or is your real name Fransk Räv https://www.flashback.org/u87163 ?

I hope it's not a reference to beanie hats?

Eek...! Stop stalking my fox, bibblebub;-) (but I'm not Fransk Räv no, I wouldn't use the same avatar on two different forums and you'll notice "my" eyes are so much purdier than Fransk Räv's:)

I don't really agree, Mosaic, I don't think it's right to take something just because you can. I named this post "stealing an image" as I wanted to attract attention (as in replies) to it but I wouldn't want to steal somebody's actual work. What annoys me is, like I said, when somebody uses a public domain image and claims it as theirs cos they've framed it or put a bleeding smiley in the corner or something. But thanks for wanting to reassure me, I appreciate that.

Thanks guys. Butch I like your avatar.

Damn you Chuck. Now I want a sorting hat for my fox. But it would fall off my good ear wouldn't it...
