I've had 15MB of free webspace for several years, initially provided by Freeserve, which was taken over by Wanadoo and is now Orange. Something has happened that I can no longer upload my website which has disappeared. (I'm waiting to hear from my FTP Terrapin.) I am wondering if Orange has discontinued the free webspace without telling me, although I pay them £20 a month for broadband. It seems I may be looking for some new webspace but don't know whether that means I would also have to change my broadband provider. Can I use my existing broadband with other webspace providers? Advice appreciated.

If you're connecting via an Orange Livebox, go into its settings and turn off its firewall. (You might also need to temporarily disable any other firewall you're using). See here:

There's loads of free webspace available which, unsurprisingly, you can find by googling 'free webspace'. Multimania (formerly Lycos) is one of the more popular providers:

You can access such webspace with any ISP.

Thanks Chris - I'm beginning to wonder how I would manage without AnswerBank.
