York R501 rowing machine

I need to replace the cylinder strap on my rowing machine but the instructions from York are hard to understand (http://www.yorkfitness.com/store/PDF/R501_in
str.pdf
page 11, part 7 onwards).

Can anyone help with some ideas? I can't even find a photo online of how it should look, they're not detailed enough.
