Dont worry the licence payers will foot the bill

Last month the BBC's creative director Alan Yentob, who gets £183,000 and a six-figure pension from the BBC, claimed he would not be able to work properly without flying business class at licence feepayers' expense.

He justified a £3,381 return trip to New York in business class by saying that without it, he "wouldn't have been capable of doing the job".

ever been in business class? You'll find a lot of people there are in fact working as they fly. This is virtually impossible to do in economy, which is too cramped, noisy and crowded and just isn't set up for work. I have no idea whether Mr Botney did in fact do any work as he flew, but it's not impossible.

As for first class, are you saying that's how he flew? I doubt that was necesary.
I fly a lot, long and short haul, and go business. I get to work on the plane, which as jno rightly says is impossible in economy. If I fly overnight, I sleep well and I arrive ready to go straight into a meeting after a shower at the business arrivals lounge rather than spend a day whining about backache in a hotel.
I agree with the above two posters entirely.

Old Etonians do not travel second class old boy.If the peasants are having trouble paying the the TV licence they should cut down on the cream cakes.
There are some false economies unfortunately. I used to travel first class a lot and got loads done on a 3 hour journey. Then we were forced to go second class and because I often had to stand up for 3 hours I got little done.
I read that some ministers are now going by public transport rather than by car- but their little red box is still being taken there by car, so not only are costs increasing but less work is getting done.
I always travelled Business Class when the company was paying the fare as I flew long haul to and from USA in my own time. When paying my own fare I travel Cattle Class.
If i did travel i would use the steerage class as one always gets a fresh glass of milk.

"allow an extra day in a hotel to get the work done. "

I doubt someone like Yentob has spare days he can afford to use up staying in hotels.. these people earn high salaries as their job is highly pressured and they flit from one meeting to the next constantly
