I am having a discussion with a friend .Can he put his son and daughter who both own their own cars and live at their own addresses on his insurance. ?I say he can't that he could only put them on his insurance if they were driving his car only.

No it's called fronting and is quite rightly illegal.

Yes chuck that is ex info but I have a feeling this family are trying to do things on the cheap which does not always work as they will find out when they make a claim.
A car has to have at least third party cover in its own right if it is going on the public highway.
The police databases would always show the car as uninsured, and if it were stolen then there would be no cover at all.

COOBEASTIE that is exactly the info I wanted. I have sent copy to him. Thank you all for your replies maybe I did not make it clear at the start what I wanted to know. Thanks again.
they can be put on his insurance as named drivers, but only on his car...unless he is claiming he owns all 3 cars...in which case he has to pay for 3 separate sets of insurance...
Question Author
Joko they are not named drivers on his car .They own there own cars. But I have found out from Coobeastie what I wanted to know Thanks all for replies.
It is not illegal,I have my son and daughter as named drivers on my insurance, they can then drive it under fully comprehensive insurance,Fronting is a different thing altogether.
Wendilla your post of 10.00 am saturday,it is illegal for them to do that, joko is quite correct in what he says.
