My daughter in law has just been diagnosed with arthritis of the spine, and she is only 27. The doctor said there is nothing to be done, just not to lift heaving things, or activities like trampoline !! I feel so helpless, what can I tell her? Is there something she can do or perhaps something she can take to help.

lid....look at it this way.......woman of 27 yrs of age diagnosed as spinal arthritis....why? at such an early age should a degenerative condition present itself.

She needs to see either an Orthopaedic Surgeon or a Rheumatologist for further evaluation.

I am no expert that would certainly advise that she gets professional advice before taking any from me but wonder if perhaps the aim would be to try and strengthen the spine a bit. I go to a pilates class and often people come along and highlight to the teacher they have back or neck issues etc and they always find an improvement - important thing is to tell the teacher so that she can keep you right based on your problem. Also would swimming help at all? As I say - just suggestions that she may wish to follow up. Maybe she should see a physiotherapist for further advice on whether exercising is good and if so what type of exercise.
What do you mean "diagnosed?"...........X-rays MRI and seen Orthopaedic surgeon?
