hiya can anyone shed any light on why you are told that babies should never be placed on their front when sleeping and yet when babies are in a special unit for example you see many of them placed on their front to sleep? thanks

Because it doesn't matter which way they sleep....back or front.
which special unit is that?
When I had my son in 1984 i was told to put him on his front!!!!!
My daughter always slept on her front.....she wouldn't settle if you tried to put her on her back.
Mini boo used to sleep on her front, even from a newborn, she's be laid dowe
n on her back and then picked up for her feeds scrunched up in a little ball on her tummy with a big nappied bum up in the air- I miss those times!
my 3 all slept on their front, it's only or the TV ads that they have babies sleeping on their back I reckon lol
I think that it is to do with cot death statistics - babies in special units would be on a monitor so any problems would be heard.
broody Boo?
My two both slept on their backs - I love it when they lie there with their arms thrown back - so cute.
Kinda craft- consoling myself with waiting for my grandson in June :-)
youngest still lies like that and he is 8 and half. Still a bit cute, but not so much.
its spost to b 2do with cot death. I had my little boy on his front most of his baby nights it helped him sleep through. Its up to u which ever u feel most comfortable with
every few years you'll find the advice on babies changes, when my 2 year old was born I was told to sleep her on her back, as frontal laying can contribute to some cot deaths, she never rolled onto her front once, she used to lay in the "don't shoot" position with her arms up!! I miss those days.... but I don't know how much is proven.... so whatever's most comfy for baby I guess... they may be more likely to sleep on front if they fall asleep on you, if you put them straight down after a feed more likely to sleep on their backs I think.
