According to my dictionary, the defination of 'Treason' is :- the crime of betraying one's country.

Is this crime still on the statute book?

I know we've gone soft on crime, but ...
It is still on the Statute books.

"Betraying one's country" is a rather loose definition.

There are lots of sportsmen who have betrayed their country to play for another country on the basis of some spurious grandparent.

It would be harsh to execute them.

Satisfying ... but harsh.

Looks like it is still there after 700 years!
Unfortunately slaying the Chancellor is treason as well, apparently!
