Perhaps someone can help me to find a record of my great-grandmother's birth. I have been trying to trace it for years but always hit a brick wall.

She was Fanny Jacobs (nee White) and, according to census records for 1871, 1881, & 1891, she was born in Dursley, Gloucestershire, in 1839. She married Henry Ditchett Jacobs on 18th October, 1864, at Bishops Hull, Taunton. Her father's name is given as William White on the marriage certificate. I have my great-grandfather's birth certificate (Henry Ditchett Jacobs) & would like to apply for Fanny's but I cannot find a record of her birth or census returns prior to 1871.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello again, dothawkes31. I have looked through all the latest information you have found with great interest. We can eliminate the Fanny White born in Dursley in 1858 because she is far too young to be my ancestor. My Fanny White was married in 1864.

In answer to your questions, both Cam & Coaley are very close to Dursley. Cambridge is on the far side of the old road to Bristol, the A38, not so close to Dursley. The Fanny White working for the Tomlin family in 1861 is, I am sure, the correct one. She obviously met Henry when working in Bishops Hull. I wonder why Fanny was at Nether Stowey at the time of her marriage three years later?

I must thank you again for all the research you have done on my behalf. I shall keep plugging away at it but you have given me leads that I can take further, once I have finished all my Christmas 'thank you' letters.

Later on, I will ask for help in locating Fanny & Henry's daughter (my grandmother) in 1911. I have searched that census but can't find Emily & her husband anywhere, even though I have a fair idea of where they were at that time. But, that's an enigma to be sorted at a later date!
