My daughter had some top soil on her garden and up from it has come up three bushes that I thought was tomatoes. But have just noticed the little green tomatoe has turned into a very black berry. Has anyone any idea of what this is.?

They could either be potatoes which do sometimes bear fruit as well as the potatoes underground (potato are the same family as tomatoes and some of the leaves can look rather similar ) or Deadly Nightshade which is extremely poisonous. Unless you can post a photo it's difficult to tell. In any case if she is insufficient of a gardening expert to recognise what it is the best thing is to dig them up, put them on the compost heap and not take a risk.
A relative of the tomato is Deadly Nightshade. See http://www.kdcomm.net/~tomato/Tomato/tax.html
potato fruits aren't edible either, best to dispose of them

Many thanks for your replies. I am going to pull them out for my daughter before she gets back from holiday with the children, just in case.
If there is a possibility that the plants and or the fruits are poisonous or even if they are just weeds, burn them as they do not compost very well and you will probably get an even greater crop when you come to use the compost.
