"Super Cook" food colouring works for me. Although you have to be aware that the blue does turn a bit greenish when added to yellowy butter icing. Beat the butter or marg a heck of a lot to try and get it as pale as possible before putting the colour in.

What else is there sprinter53?
For the amount you use for one whole cake, the E numbers won't do you any harm, your not exactly going to use the whole bottle are you!
Only 2 teaspoons at the most.
If there is anything else available - let me know.
If you are making a sponge cake with buttercream filling you could use a bit of raspberry or strawberry juice to make a fruity flavoured buttercream. It may colour it a bit like baby pink and you could decorate the top with icing sugar and fresh fruit.
