I live in a ordinary domestic situation and it's nearly time for my next BT phone bill. I'm under the impression that I must have a calling plan of some sort, and so opted for the 'Unlimited Week-end Plan', which appeared to be the least expensive at 11.25 a month. I don't use the plan as such and just make phone calls as and when needed. Can someone enlighten me please - am I under a wrong impression thinking I must have a calling plan? What do others do?

I used to be on Friends and Family but BT rang to say I would be better off on the Evenings and Weekends plan....I await my first bill.......
For the majority of users the minimum payment to BT is the line rental of 11.25 per month. You automatically get unlimited weekend calls but, if you're prepared to commit to a 12 month contract period, you can get unlimited evening calls for no extra payment:

Those who are in receipt of Income Support, Income-Based Job Seeker's Allowance, Income-Related Employment Support Allowance or Guaranteed Pensions Credit can apply to use BT Basic. The cost is just 13.20 per quarter, including up to 4.50 in call charges. Additional calls to UK landline numbers cost roughly 10p per minute (plus a 3p flat charge per call):

Very many thanks for this information. All I need is a telephone in my home to use at any time. BT makes a simple requirement difficult to find by wrapping it all up in plans. As I pay a rental for the line I feel it shouldn't matter when or how often I use it.
