Well it comes to mind that the customer bit where most of the noise is does not adjoin houses like it would if it was in the middle of a terrace.  Also, it usually is a highly visible architectural 'comma', to whatever set of buildings it is setting off - and thus noticeable and equi-distant from all potential punters who might be passing to and fro in turnings.  If it is too tucked away it could be by-passed.  There is ease of delivery to consider too.
