hi there thaks ? but i had already checked that and it isnt checked? i had to make a copy to my documents and then send to another memory stick. i have checked all my excel workbooks and they are all sayin the same? it wouldnt let me save as my documents i had to make a copy ? i just dont understand it. i have sorted it but i want to know why it is doing that? any ideas ?
Can't you just copy the data off the read only spreadsheet and paste it into a new workbook - make your changes in the new workbook and save it ???

Your memory stick doesn't by any chance have a little switch on it? Some do, and it is used to prevent you accidentally writing to the memory stick. If there is such a switch, slide it in the opposite direction to switch to Read/Wite mode.
