Why do obituaries name already deceased family members?
EG: John Smith died Dec 13th 2008, loved son of Mary and William (deceased.)

I think it is so that people reading the obituary can be certain which person it is. When my Mum died we mentioned her deceased brothers and sister in the obituary, as some people might have known the whole family and have then known exactly who it was that had died. If we hadn't done then some people might have been wondering if it was her, or just someone with the same name.
