I havent a recipe as such just throw it together, the bacon isnt strange, a true lasagne should have bacon in it,i would make small dice of bacon, and cook with the mince, i add wine, mushrooms, onions, tomato puree, tinned tomatoes, garlic, oregano, even a dash of milk, slow cook till reduced!!!
This is the best:

Finely chop 2 large onions, fry in sunflower oil, add 2 tbsps chopped garlic (I use English Provender Lazy Garlic)

1kg of best lean steak mince, brown, add red wine liberally throughout. A whole bottle of red wine goes into this meal.

1 jar of tomato puree, 1-2 cans of chopped tomatoes.

Now the good bit, the seasoning. Loads of oregano and basil, black pepper, cayenne pepper and paprika. Then the magic touch - ground cloves and cinammon. It will give you bad dreams, but it is worth it.

This makes about 4 large portions.

Serve with best red wine or very cold Budweiser.
whiffy you dont need to add any oil, you cook ure mince and bacon and that will reveal some cooking juices, sweat ure onions in this, we know that you love your heat which isnt part of a spag bog, also to much meat as a portion 2.2 pounds between 4 people????

Whiffy that sounds a great recipe. The friends we are making this for do not like hot food, as chilli ect. so would I just leave out the cayenne pepper and paprika shall I.? many thanks.
Spag bol is very much an individual dish, and you make your favourite version by trial and error. I see nothing wrong with adding bacon at all.

Mine is simple. Supermarket mince cooked up and fat drained, couple of spoons of gravy mix to beef it up, jar of pasta sauce, with additions per jar if you want (ie garlic, mushrooms, etc etc), fresh mushrooms sliced, onions chopped, and a tin of toms. Once made up, I leave it in the slow cooker heating up, so all I have to do is cook the pasta. Bit of garlic bread as well and it's lovely.

Like I said tho, trial and error - you know what you like.
My way, bolognese sauce:

Fry 1lb mince - drain off fat (pour fat onto bread for dog)
Add chopped onion & peppers, 2cloves of fresh chopped garlic & fry with mince.....10 seconds!
Add small tin tomato puree & half pint water, half teasp oregano, tabasco & seasoning. Bring all to boil and put into oven for half hour, Gas 5.

Boil long speghetti with pinch of salt. When boliling fork thru to separate strands.....should take half hour, taste for texture.

Serve with sprinkled camembert cheese on top & chopped chives (for decor).

Does anyone eat spag bog any more? since we are introduced to so many other pasta recipes!!!
Brown chopped onion in a little oil, add mince and brown, add chopped bacon, then add chopped mushrooms, a couple of cloves garlic, tin of tomatoes, 2 tablespoons tomato puree, quarter pint chicken stock, bay leaf 1 teaspoon mixed herbs, one finely diced carrot, and 2 tablespoons red wine (optional) cover and cook for about 30-35 mins.
elcee shouldnt that be beef stock not chicken??
Sorry....change cheese to Parmesan.
Puddi quite by chance I had it the day this post was made. As I said in my other post, the bog part was in the slow cooker, so when I came to do my pasta, I used quick cook pasta shells. All ready in five minutes, some tear and share garlic bread from Morrisons and a bottle of beer - lovely!
postdog can i get a invite feeling hungry!!!

Well everyone thankyou for your replies. Whiffy ,My husband made a spag bol for our friends this evening and used your recipe without chilli ect. But he did put in the cinnamon but no cloves , my friend couldnt get over the fact he had used cinnamon.! But I must say it was really nice.I did also give him some green, yellow and red peppers to put in and the bacon.
Will look for more recipes from you and everyone else. x
A very nice and easy one is a pound of mince, a whole tube of tomato puree, a spoonful of bovril and a chopped onion.

Bung it all in the pan on the ring and simmer it for a couple of hours at a low heat. Sooo tasty!
had the recipe for about 20 years and it said chicken stock and chicken stock I use, but I suppose either beef or veg could be used.
For the best Bolognese sauce, try the following: Heat 4 tbsp of olive oil in pan, saute 1 finely chopped onion, 1 garlic and 4 rashers of bacon, 1 diced carrot and 1 diced celery till soft. Add 500g mince beef and cook till brown. Add 100ml red wine (optional) and cook till almost evaporated. Season. Add 100ml milk and cook till milk is absorbed. Add 400g can of tomatotes, 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp oregano. Reduce heat and simmer and cook, uncovered for at least 1 hour. Perfect meat sause for either bolognese or lasagne. ENJOY
try adding wostershire sauce to ur mince while frying it then adding tomatoe ketup to your sace before serving LOVLEY trust me
Some lovely recipes there. I always use about half bottle of Guinness instead of stock to mine. It is really lovely. The other half quenches the thirst whilst stirring the pot too!!
