I have two cats, who up until now have been fed tinned cat food, with a supplement of biscuits. Because of the mess and smell the tinned meat causes I thought I would try them on dry food (with plenty of water near by) Last night they didn't eat any of the dried food. Should I persevere? Will they eat it eventually?

They look at me as if I am really mean too!

Thank you petal. I have two lovely moggies. One is 5 and the other is 2. The normally eat their biscuits in between meat, so I know they will eat them. The youngest would walk with me when I fed him and miaow encouragement at me to open his food, but no more, quite sad really.

The big one brought half a rabbit in last night in protest!

dont they just rule us lol!!, my mum gives up on trying to please my cat, she has the sheba food which she doesnt take to, the cheapos yep then changes again, biscuits in between, sometimes the dish ends up really rancid looking that i have to get rid of it i hate cats lol!!!,
Don't know if this would apply to cats, but in the book we were given when we re-homed our dog, it says to mix one third of the new food with two thirds of the old for a few days before going on to two thirds of the new fod and one third of the old for a few days until finally just the new food.
My cat definitely prefers her meat in jelly or gravy, she turns her nose up at dry food and sometimes we sprinkle a few bits on the meat just to give her some crunch - I think that once cats have had meat or fish in jelly they prefer it to dry food; certainly all my cats past and present have done.
You have to do it gradually, one bowl of tinned food (try Gourmet small tins) and some Royal Canin biscuits for fussy cats then reduce the soggy food and eventually change to the biscuits, works for my four!
