11 British Newspapers have admitted printing lies about Madeline suspect Robert Murat. They have said sorry and given him 600,000.

In such cases, the newspapers never apologise to the people lied to, the people who have paid good money to buy their papers. Do we all deserve at apology from:

Daily Mail
London Evening Standard
Metro
Daily Express
Sunday Express
Daily Star
Daily Mirror
Sunday Mirror
Daily Record
Sun
News of the World?

I would assume the thinking is that Murat had no say in the matter when we can choose whether to read such drivel or not.
We would be in for one hell of a wait Gromit, there would be no room for news, the papers would be full of adverts and apologies every day of the week, they make millions of poundfs from fabricated stories, why should they change when all they get is told off and a paltry fine, if the courts could shut a paper down for a week or so maybe they would only print Facts not fiction, just a thought.
i thought everything in the Sun, News of The World and Daily star ony printed bullsh1t
as I wouldn't touch any of the above even with oven gloves on, I do not require an apology. If I want to know what's in the Mail, I rely on AOG to relay the news to me.
They can slander me to bits for a year if they want.
600,000 would be handy to pay the wifes catalogue.

if the courts could shut a paper down for a week or so maybe they would only print Facts not fiction, just a thought. - absolutely love this idea. I have previously called for the papers to have to apologise in the same font size and same prominence as the original article, but think that closing them down for a period is much better.

Theland - being called a paedophile is probably the worst crime you can be called in the UK. You will never recover from it. There will always be people who think you are guilty. There are plenty of people on this site who have stated on numerous occasions "no smoke without fire".
He is simply being paid compensation as the law in this country states innocent until proven guilty.Thats why he is being compensated .I know thats being overly simplistic but thats the crux of it.

I -sadly- had a few column inches in my local daily -which I believed until them to be absolutely solid. It was complete and utter garbage and I had to walk around with my head held high knowing people had read this nonsense.I contacted the paper and my solicitor and the PCC and they watched with an eagle eye to see what happened when the case came to court again. This time they got it right.(some will know what i am referring to) .Thing is mud sticks -therefore to that end I wouldnt believe a word in any newspaper -that includes the ones named. (unfortunately for me it was copied into other papers -sigh !!)
Apologise. Lmao.
No chance.
Hell will freeze over before that lot print anything that is remotely truthful or say sorry when they don't.
I don't read newspapers. I don't want someone else's opinion on what's happening in the world.

maybe these papers wouldn't sell so well if they stuck to the known facts...
Buy The Economist, people. Sure, it's always putting forward an argument - but it's always well-supported and fairly balanced. It also has excellent international affairs and finance coverage.
