Hi

I hope someone can help. I want to knit for a child 18 months old, also a 2 yr old. I have plenty of knitting patterns, but they only give chest size not ages, so wonder what might be the best size to knit.

Thanks in anticipation.

If you look on any catalogue web site, there's a size guide.

I've just had a nosey and chest sizes are...

12 - 18 months = 20 inches
18 - 23 months = 20.5 inches
2 -3 yrs = 21 inches.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much for your advice - I never thought of that. Tried to Google children's clothing sizes with no luck. Now I can get knitting!
You could always ask the parents of the children involved for their chest sizes!
Buy a tape measure

As the garments were to be surprise present, I can not ask the mother the size needed. Hence, a tape measure would be of little use either.
Hi, I recently aquired a telly tubbies pattern and want to make a jumper for a two year old. I had the same problem as you in that the measurements don't give a child's age as a guideline. I found this after searching in google and have got my answer. I really posted to say how rude the person was who said buy a tape measure. Why are people like that? Anyway thanks for asking the question. I'm afraid If I'd got that reply I wouldn't have been as polite as you were.
