Not sure if this the right place for this question but would welcome theory
I have a (forwarded) email address which has virtually only been used once or twice a year. I received an email as receipt for a SA tax return recently and today I have received one offering a large loan Is it likely to be connected

it's possible. But a lot of these email robots just send out emails to every possible arrangement of letters under the sun, so it could be they just hit on your address by chance. Don't reply - that just lets them know they've found one that works.
