Apparently avoiding yeast - including bread, marmite and beer - really helps.

And I seem to recall that porridge is meant to be really good for it - eaten not spread over it.

Also, attempting to reduce stress and UV light helps it too.

Its not nice, I hope it gets better!

My mum suffers to and has done for over 20 years, she use to use a sunbed alot that use to help hers, when she comes in i will ask her for you.

I used to suffer from this very badly. I use Dovonex ointment and Betnovate scalp application. I get out in the sun and fresh air as much as possible. I also avoid alcohol, red meat, dairy products and stress!

The most effective treatment I ever had was hypnosis. My skin cleared up completely and I was okay for several years after that.

File nails one way only. Sleep in cotton sheets. Try mild antihistamine if itching develops.

i have had psoriasis for 27 years ..all you can do is control it..i had the puva treatment once and it has never returned as bad..that involved taking a tablet and standing under a very powerfull lamp which activated the tablet..i use dovenex ointment for day to day use..all though i only have it on my knees and elbows now..but i have been covered in it ..the herbal treatments dont seem to work very well and i have tried several..all you can do is eat well ..cut down on smoking and alchol and stress...porridge oats are good as they help the nervous system which is under attack if you have psoriasis..mine seems to get better in the summer when i am in the garden...i used to go on sun beds and that helped also..if he gets it in the scalp tell him to buy some liquid parrafin from the chemist rub it in his scalp put a towel round the head for a hour as its greasy and then wash it off with polytar shampoo or whatever the doctor has given him...a skin specialist told me to try that and to do it on a regular basis ..and it works!! i also tried high dose fish oils once prescribed by the doctor and it totally cleared up..and remained clear for a long time...

Unlike your brother, I myself have a very mild form of the disease, which affects only one thumb! Nevertheless, I have been prescribed ultra-violet treatment and every form of cream in the Dovonex, Dermovate 'family' of treatments. Of all of these, a cream you can buy over the counter at chemists' shops proved the most effective. It's called Alphosyl, which might be worth a try. I hope he finds something that works.

Having had PSORIASIS for well over thirty years tried every treatment, in a well known London Hospital done tests on certain drugs I still have it and have learnt to live with it, the best treatment I have found for removing the flakey skin is baby oil or neat Oilatum from the doctor hope this helps.
My friend had it for 6 years very badly mainly on her hands. She did chinese herbal medicine and it cleared up completely for 3 years and now she has only mild symptoms. What you have to boil up and drink from the herbalist is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. So it's not a step to be taken lightly, it takes willing and perseverance - and a strong stomach - if he thinks of going down that road. Interesting what lacey says about hypnosis tho.

Thank you guys for your answers, its really appreciated.
Someone I know has this really badly and she recently started going for UV treatment and the improvement is quite dramatic. I don't know how long you can have it for or anything about side effects but it has certainly helped her.
I have been told there is no real cure. However, a have found that an ointment called DOVOBET tends to alleviate the problem the best. This, apparently, is an expense medication and your Dr. might be reluctant to prescribe it, the other disadvatage is it has the consistency of vaseline, I presume to permeate the excess layers of skin formed
hi there arshad; i suffer with severe psoriasis and have done for aboiut 12 years nothing worked for me untill i started having treatment as a in patient, i use a special cream called dithronal in hospital and i'm closly monitored by my consultant, someone mentioned ther's no cure, that is so true, but it can be controlled to some extent, the light treatment seems to work for people with moderate psoriasis, but mine is quite severe and about 60-70 % of my body including scalp for which i use SCC OINTMENT
Arshad - I've found a new ointment called MOMETASONE - fantastic stuff!

Lacey2709 can I buy it over the counter?
I get mine from the Doctor, so I don't know whether it's available over the counter. Sorry.
For years I have tested so many techniques to help my Psoriasis, and some things have helped more than others. Some things I have done have worked very well. Many other people have different stories on what helped them the most. For more informations, visit
