Does anyone know an effective way for completely removing a lawn? I know I'm bound to get the odd bit of grass returning along with the weeds, but that's OK, as long as the lawn is gone.

You can hire a turf cutter like this

which takes a lot of the work out of removing a lawn, but of course you have still got to dispose of the turf.
Phone a turfing company and sell them the grass - they will come along and lift it and give you some money as well.

You may need to make sure it is in good nick before they're interested.
