If i buy something from a website, and return it, and the company doesnt give me my money back (they are notorious for being slow) within the time they say, am i within my rights to claim the money through my credit card?

The credit card company will only pay your money back to you after you have tried ALL other means to get it back.
Also you should be aware that there is no legal requirement for them to repay your money for items that are not faulty. They may have a policy which offers customers that extra right, but no retailer, on line or otherwise, is legally obliged to do so.
I work for a bank and I know for a fact that Visa do have make the refund and then claim the money back for you from the company. This assumes that you bought with the same card. I would suggest that you don't ask if it can be done - just ask for a refund, I'm fairly confident you'll get it.
Actually BenDToy, I think in the UK a retailer who offers good or services via a remote retail channel, eg. catalogue, phone or web must offer a 7 day change-your-mind period and accept the goods back no matter the reason, providing they are returned with original packing and in a resaleable condition... Any lawyers or consumer law experts out there pls confirm?
