I can't see the point in announcing whether the threat level is now severe or critical. We all know what kind of world we're living in, but are we all meant to hide under our beds until the level is reduced?

As it stands, the threat level indicates an attack is not imminent. I am happy to go along with the experts so I would say an attack is not imminent based on expert opinion.

Ah those experts, you mean those who forecast an imminent attack after it has been carried out?
//ff, as you are perfectly aware there is no simple step.
That should not stop the difficult ones being started.//

or as even Chairman Mayo used to say ( ah it was so long ago - what happened to him I wonder?)
even the thousand mile march started with the first step
if you say regularly enough

ahhh there will be another attack - I feel it in my bones - lots of dead people - I see ! I see!..... at least some of them with brown skins....

you are gonna be right some of the time....
ANOTHEOLDGIT, they are the same experts who have prevented other unreported incidents.

According to you, attacks can happen at any time "And they usually do"

How many attacks have there been in the last month?

ANOTHEOLDGIT, if the attacks are that "usual" how many will there be in the next four weeks?
If you have no faith in the experts, whose opinions should be relied upon?
Michael Gove has a lot to answer for ...
The M1 suspicious package is not a bomb.

The threat level has to be based on actual evidence and not gibbering by scaredy pants wetting their pants over a latest example of Daily Mail scaremongering.

'Chief Inspector Mark Lewis, from the Joint Roads Policing Unit for Thames Valley and Hampshire, said: "There is no evidence to suggest that this is a terrorist-related incident."'

Not sure that he has spoken to ANOTHEOLDGIT to get his input yet.

When the threat level is critcal, there are extra security measures going on behind the scenes which the public are not party to
Ok, but still, why announce it?
It's just the way it is. You can't keep much quiet in this day and age
I agree that announcing the change of threat level is pointless.
They could just give away a valium tablet with every sale of the Daily Mail, to indicate the threat level has become worse.
When we hit critical, DM readers will get an XXXL 'Pamper' to go with their crossword.
I think Theresa May announced the new threat level in PMQ or something in the HoC. That's hardly trying to keep it quiet.

Easy to be wise after the event.

I suppose those who decided to close the M1 for hours, were "scaredy pants wetting their pants over a latest example of Daily Mail scaremongering"?

This pathetic post was entered by someone that is a Moderator, or at least he once was unless of course he has been sacked.

I wonder if he is intelligent enough to realise that every terrorist attack or suspected attack is not only reported by the Daily Mail but other news outlets across the nation?
Why so rude, AOG?
